Growing Concern: Humanity’s dying connection with nature
Over the weekend, I dusted off the scalpel, cutting mat and some old magazines, to take a different approach (from what I’m used to) in creating some visual thoughts that have been floating around in my head for a while. In this digital age, it is rare for me to able to get ‘manual’ tools out and experiment. I love getting off the computer and creating pieces by hand. These pieces are just a few examples of the outcomes from this experiment.
During the peak of my depression in 2014, my field of view was bleak and I couldn’t see very far ahead. This narrow field of view, or ‘tunnel vision’, lead me down this road of focussing very heavily on unhealthy thought patterns.
Burning Man - An old man, watching his own car burn. The car burning is the metaphorical vehicle of his life — His bad habits that were slowly seared into his life routine. As a younger man, he dreamt of kicking these habits, but he kept putting them off day after day, year after year. He now has to deal with the consequences of his actions, or, inaction.
Seaskate - All this climate change talk got me thinking about what future destinations might look like if/when the sea levels rise. There could be some picturesque places to skate.
