March 2019 Playlist
With nine days of rain, and the day light fading earlier and earlier, I have attempted to keep the energy up as the temperature starts to go down. I’m building this month’s playlist from a contemplative start to finishing off with some serious funk and groove.
I have pooled all the nine days of rain into this one ambient, emotional, lo-fi house track to start. Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, and now based in London, DJ Hoshino brings a very moving track to the table with A Real Life. A rising and swelling synth gives the track a very atmospheric start. Distorted crunching bass and snare sounds provides the track with a rough texture, but with additional soothing samples that are scattered through this piece, balance the rough edges. It is a soothing track to drift to on grey rainy day.
Next up, is Melbourne producer and DJ, Loure, with Mutual Motion. Loure has incorporated an interesting array of samples, swirling crisp synths, intricate drum sounds, with driving bass to create a beautiful lounge track. How the different sections of this track are woven together are masterfully executed.
Next, we get into some genuine boogie and toe tapping territory with Holiday 80’s rework of Pejzaż’s track Uważaj Jak Tańczysz. Both Polish producers, Holiday 80 has added some burning energy to his rework. If you listen to the original by Pejzaż, you’ll see what I mean. Embodying and respecting the original, Holiday 80 has offered his own subtle flavour to this spicy number.
The faithful French Producer and DJ, Folamour is back with another juicy tune. This funky beast is an immediate mood enhancer, delicious dancer and old school romancer. These Are Just Places To Me Now, is filled with a menu of funky and groovy sound designs. From buzzing lead synths, to subtle vocals supporting in the background. The vocals (samples?) for me really lift the track into a positive realm that not many other tracks I have found have been able to achieve with as much success.
I’m leaving you with another super groovy journey by London producer and DJ, Nebraska, with Deep Drill. This track oozes positive dance floor mayhem. The strings and brass collectively inject so much attitude and personality. The bass-line, consistent almost the whole way through, gives the track its groovy essence. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I did.
Until next month, chance your arm.
