Well it’s hardly felt like winter here in Sydney. I haven’t had the opportunity to get out my favourite coats and I got sunburnt last weekend. You may be experiencing the cold somewhere else around the world so I’ve kept the tempo up this month to keep the blood circulating.

Kicking off, we have an Alan Fitzpatrick remix of Clarity by two brothers based in London, Model Man. A soothing and whimsical addition to the original, Alan Fitzpatrick adds his own mellow flavour and details. For me this track has a very Maribou State influence, from its intricate instrumentation to the clean bass and string assembly.

Next up, we have a bass driving track that takes you on a nostalgic journey by German producer and DJ Julius Steinhoff, with Forgotten Garden. There’s a beautiful narrative of pure observation throughout this track. The voice accompanies and elevates the nostalgic tone set within the confines of this arrangement. Elegant synth sounds are scattered throughout, with moments of delay drenched vocals. A long midnight drive awaits you.

Bearight (GER) and Lookleft (UK) have have joined forces to create this soothing and melodic club track, Miss You. The guys have utilised bass as the driving force with snippets of gorgeous vocals, drenched in delay and reverb. The variety in which similar sounds interact and evolve with the bass and vocals are masterfully executed, leaving me in a state of pure bliss.

If I was to enter an underground club in search of the perfect dance vibe, Kassian’s (UK) remix of the Cats n’ Dogz track Wave feat. Zensofly & Maxville, would be at the top of the list. It’s a big departure from the original, giving the remix a big melodic club track slap in the face. The progression, masterful use of reductivism, synth composition, crunchy snare and vocal use all combine to create a glorious united sound.

Finishing on a big groove/funk/house track by Frenchman Yann Polewka, we have The Rebound Love Affair. This chateau de house has all the makings of a love affair - tempo, bass, funky guitar riffs and delightfully bright synths. The energy of this track is infectious, consuming every atom in my body. Roller derby, Sunday session, family wake, you name it and this track will fill a room full of romance and positivity. Grab your best friend, or, preferably a stranger on the streets, and start cutting some shapes.

Until next month, keep soaring.
