The final days of May were the only signs that Winter was well on its way. The former days had all of us bathing in blue skies and sunlight.

This month’s playlist begins with a relaxing balance of instruments. As the playlist progresses, cosmic sounds and bass follow with.

We start off with a soul soothing track by New Zealand duo 2XM, with I Don’t Feel Pain. Deep track title for a deep tune. From the beginning, there is a mood captured so honestly and authentically, it can’t be ignored. The resonating violin, accompanied by a soft guitar, sets that feeling off. The contemplative and delicate piano contrasts so vividly with the fractured grit of the drums, giving the track brilliant texture. One for those lazy Sunday afternoons laying in the sun, thinking about how wild and happenstance our existence is.

Snapping you out of your contemplative trance, we have Icelandic born, Copenhagen based producer, Fruit, with 2 The. This tropical, semi breakbeat track is the perfect composition to describe the May temperature. Warm sun (soft synths washing over the track matched with wet high pitched sounds) and cool refreshing breezes (bass drive). A great track to go exploring through the suburban streets.

Next up, we have a track where the bass takes center stage and leads us to melodic bliss. Good Life by Canadian DJ and Producer Jesse Bru, is a full-bodied, deep and delicate arrangement. It’s strength is in how much the bass attacks the track throughout. However, the bass alone wouldn’t have the same impact without all the intricate sounds and delay that are perfectly woven into this moody number. Life is good when a talent like Jesse Bru produces a track at such a high standard.

You find yourself sitting in a restaurant, clueless on how you got there. You are greeted by Frenchman Malouane and served with a progressive entrée called Tuna Dance. As you listen, you are welcomed with a crisp high-hat, a sauté snare in a hallway, punchy bass and a detailed row of sounds that fill the space in between. Authentic inspired strings echo over the track as the bass keeps the meal light but filling. In your head you’re thinking “If anyone was to witness Tuna dancing, they would be fizzing out to this track.” And desert is still to come.

Dessert is a rich thick slice of deep house, with a glass of bubbles by AL7! feat. Lemons, with Everybody Was F*cking But Me. AL7! is a mystery to me, but it is the post code of an area just outside of London, so they might be UK based. Either way, this track is a real treat to end this month’s playlist. The bass from the get-go sets the tone. Pad sounds wash over the track and a gritty zapped bass line lays the foundations. Wet, acid-like leads present the track with some high end support and the piano helps brighten the arrangement.

You tip the waiter and thank him for his service, but remain perplexed on how you got there. Until next month, stay satisfied.
