October 2019 Playlist
This month I have slowed the tempo down a bit with some ambient, contemplative tracks to start off with and slowly evolving the playlist into more optimistic arrangements.
I’m starting off with an eerily darker track from USA producer and DJ, Patricia with Salt Water. This has a very sinister and dystopian feel to it right from the initial opening with a reverb saturated synth that echoes into the abyss. A scrambled and almost schizophrenic synth adds high pitched sharp droplets into the openness. An ominous deep bass fills the lower end and feeds into the track’s darkness.
Moving onto a brighter, more optimistic and feel-good-chill sound comes one of my favourite producers I have stumbled across - UK based genius Laurence Guy, with Dissociation in the Car Park at Sainsburys. Unfortunately this is only a snippet of the full-length track, but what a delicious introspective treat it is. All the parts of this composition come together to create a beautifully optimistic and nostalgic piece. Laying in bed, witnessing the initial cracks between a loved ones eyelids appear, hazy, on a crisp morning, under the safety of your blankets.
An oldie, but a damn goodie from another UK genius, Leon Vynehall with Midnight on Rainbow Road. Straddling the edge of ambient and house, Midnight on Rainbow Road is a stunning arrangement that creates a beautiful harmony of tempo and glistening bright sounds, mixed with a dramatic undertow.
Bouncing back to another sunny track, we are blessed with a piece from our New Zealand neighbours, 2XM with Don’t Wanna. This buoyant piece of perfection is ideal for a Spring afternoon. The duo that is 2XM have masterful skills in arranging sounds in such a way that they continue to bring absolute joy into my life.
Finishing off with a slightly uptempo, but remaining in that chilled house realm, we have a collaboration between Melos (UK) and Kyber (?) under the name Humans & Trees. Combined, they’ve created a relaxing track called Down to You. Sparkling and drifting sounds hover over the beat while bouncing deep bass and jazzy flavours flow through this track effortlessly. For me, some of the sounds have an association to nature but in a digital atmosphere.
Until next month, Epstein didn’t kill himself.
